Pack the Bus | August 18, 2018
RIFA is hosting the 7th annual Pack the Bus event on August 18th from 9:00am to 4:00pm for the Snack Backpack ministry to help feed hungry school children over the weekends. The community is encouraged to “Pack the Bus” full of nonperishable food items at the Jackson-Madison County school buses stationed at five locations:
“This event is pivotal for our Snack Backpack ministry,” according to Lisa Tillman, RIFA Executive Director. “Each year the program continues to grow, which in turn, requires more food and funds. This will be a great event were individuals, church groups and businesses can support an effort that truly makes an impact in our community.”
Students without food at home face far more than nutritional inadequacies. According to feedingamerica.org, students without food will suffer socially, developmentally, and behaviorally. Without proper balanced meals, students are at a disadvantage and are more likely to repeat a grade. The RIFA Snack Backpack ministry works to fill this gap by providing kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare, nutritious food items for children who are at risk of going hungry on Saturdays and Sundays.
Last year, 207,558 meals were provided to elementary school students through the Snack Backpack ministry.
